BMW UK is now offering luxury car enthusiasts the ability to purchase a car online, according to a press release.

Consumers will be able to buy a car at any hour and have access to the entire BMW catalog.

The company launched this service, named BMW Retail Online, in response to the popularity of online shopping. It initially tested the program with nine British dealerships. It proved so successful that the service has been adopted by 95 percent of U.K. BMW dealers. According to BMW Blog, nine more will sign up by April 2016, bringing the total to 146 retailers.

Buyers will be able to choose a specific car (or take a mini survey that suggests one), add specifications, schedule a test drive and set up payment solutions from the comfort of their home. Those with questions can have them answered via email, phone or webchat from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through the company's BMW Genius service.

"We are the first car manufacturer to offer a digital sales solution for the entire product range and the full end-to-end buying or leasing process online," said Dr. Ian Robertson, a member of the BMW AG management board.

Considering the popularity of online shopping and the potential of e-commerce, other automotive companies may follow suit.
